He is a person in long-term recovery and has served as former President and CEO of the National Association of Addiction Treatment Providers (NAATP), former liaison to the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), former Florida Association of Recovery Residences (FARR) Board Member, and currently serves on the Executive Board of the National Association for Children of Addiction (NACoA). Through his leadership, lived experience, and unwavering commitment to recovery, Michael continues to inspire hope and advance innovative approaches to supporting individuals, families, and communities.

While attending the New York Knicks championship parade, Simone courageously responded to a suspected opioid overdose, leading a lifesaving rescue that highlighted the power of emergency preparedness, compassion, and community action. A dedicated volunteer EMT with the South Orange Rescue Squad and aspiring physician, Simone is committed to improving care for individuals affected by substance use disorders and mental health challenges. Her inspiring story serves as a powerful reminder that one person, equipped with knowledge and the willingness to act, can make all the difference.
